Research of the public page and its metadata found that the template can render a base64 PNG booking image when an image exists. When no mugshot is available in the public row, the roster can show a generic user icon placeholder instead.
The Pender County Sheriff's Office did not publish a separate official recent-bookings gallery, daily booking-photo report, or standalone mugshot archive in the sources reviewed. That is an important local limit. The strongest official source for Pender County jail mugshots is the current inmate roster itself, followed by a public-records request through the county's NextRequest portal when a photo is not displayed or when a booking is no longer returned by the public portal.

The image is useful because the photo field sits inside the roster table, not on a separate gallery page.
Where Pender County Booking Photos Appear
Pender County booking photos appear, when available, in the mugshot column of the public roster. The same row can show the person's name, race, sex, date of birth, arrest date, and held-for agency. A second row can show hold reasons, such as sentenced notes, arrest date text, bond language, or other custody language. That hold-reasons row is not the same as a full criminal court docket.
The roster is current-custody oriented. It also has an "In Custody On" date filter that the research found was limited to dates within the last 30 days. The sheriff does not publish a fixed photo retention period. Because of that, Pender County jail mugshots should be described as photos that may appear while the public portal returns the booking record, not as photos that stay online for a set number of days.
Public view limit: The public roster can show a booking photo when one is present, but it is not an official promise that every booking has a visible photo or that older photos remain online.
Request Pender County Booking Photos
Use the official roster first. If the photo is not displayed, if the person is no longer listed, or if the request is for an older booking, the county public-records portal is the documented fallback. Pender County uses NextRequest for public records requests, and the request form metadata includes fields for a date range and key terms.

Pender County Mugshot Law
North Carolina does not have a simple statewide rule in the research stating that every booking photograph must always be released. The local fact is narrower: the Pender County roster itself displays mugshots when the public portal has a photo. State law then frames what can be requested and what may be withheld.

G.S. 132-1.4 lists public arrest information such as a person's name, sex, age, address, employment, alleged violation of law, and circumstances surrounding the arrest. Mugshots are not listed as a category that must always be released in that subsection. That makes agency policy and record context important. Pender County Photo Retention
The sheriff does not publish a fixed public retention period for Pender County jail mugshots. The roster is designed around current and recent custody, with the "In Custody On" date filter limited to a recent window. A release-date field exists in the portal template and API, but the current public column set hides release date for the inspected configuration.
That means no page should state that a mugshot stays online for a set number of hours, days, or months. A photo may disappear when the booking record is no longer returned by the public roster. Older records may still exist in agency files, but access depends on public-records law, retention practices, and any exception that applies to the requested material.
Note: A missing public photo can mean no image is returned by the portal, not that the arrest record never existed.
Mugshot Removal and Expunction
No Pender-specific mugshot removal form was found in the official sources reviewed. North Carolina expunction law may affect eligible court and law-enforcement records, but expunction is a court process. It is not the same as asking a private publisher to remove a copied image, and it is not automatic merely because a charge was dismissed.
If a record has been expunged or sealed, the practical route is to contact the originating agency and the clerk or court using official channels. Federal and ICE Mugshots
County jail mugshots are different from state prison, federal, and immigration custody records. The Pender County roster is for local jail custody. Pender Correctional Institution is a North Carolina Department of Adult Correction state prison, and its records are searched through NC DAC, not through the county jail roster. Avoid Unofficial Mugshot Sites
Pender County jail mugshots should be checked through official channels: the Pender County roster, the county's NextRequest portal, the court system for filed charges, NC DAC for state prison custody, and federal or ICE locators when the person is in a different custody system. Unofficial sites may copy images, leave old data online, or mix records from different jurisdictions.
A booking photo is not a conviction. It only shows that a person was processed through custody or that a photo was associated with a booking record.
